A lasting Memorial, built in Britain

memorial_new.jpg

The memorial, placed in the old British cemetery at Kyrenia was built in Britain by H L Perfitt Ltd of Diss, Norfolk, who are the appointed suppliers to the Ministry of Defence to provide individual memorials for those killed on active service. The craft-based company, which dates back to 1834, has won many National Awards for memorial design and craft skills. The design brief was to provide a lasting memorial that will remind future generations that those who died in their country’s service in Cyprus are not to be forgotten.

The memorial is constructed from dark-grey granite. The inscription to each serviceman who died on active service in Cyprus is inscribed and silver enamelled, using the traditional style of lettering common to British memorials since the First World War. The eight solid list the names alphabetically under the badge of their respective Service, Regiment or Unit.
